Acting Touristy and a Picnic at the Park
Yesterday was a good day. My wife and I decided that since we both had the day off we would go for a drive. We lent her nice new camera out to a friend of ours before this decision was made so we made do with my little PowerShot SD850 point-and-shoot. We traversed the area around where she works and after stopping at the local greenery again for some more pictures and a few gifts for others, we found a little "farmer's market" of sorts that has the best ice cream in the area. As you can see from the pictures on her blog, the size of a single dip cone was huge so we each got one. After we finished our ice cream we went and sat at the store my wife works at so I could eat some soup. We also bought a little bag of tea to try out, then we headed home. On the way we decided to stop by Ace Hardware and pick up some potting soil and a pot for the plants we purchased. We played with the idea of a little tennis match between ourselves but ended up going home so I could mow the lawn (almost up to once every five days now) and she could get her plants potted. Before walking out the door to start the mower, I had a revelation for dinner... a picnic at the park. Its more of a beach really... Washington Park has a pebble beach area that we utilized for our small group a few weeks earlier and I thought we could grill out... and since grilling out by yourself isn't as much fun as with others, we called up the same family that had borrowed the camera for the day to see if they'd be interested in joining us. Since they were definitely interested, we worked out the time and details and I proceeded to mow the lawn and rake the clippings up into our compost while my wife went and bought some more pots for her plants. I happened to call her just in time while she was picking these up so she could also grab some firewood and some hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, and chips from the grocery store as well. We even stopped to pick up smores supplies at the store on the way and we found the Easter chocolate bunnies on sale and figured we could definitely use those with our marshmallows and graham crackers. We all arrived at the park within a few minutes of each other and found a place and started the fire up. I don't think any of us had ever really tried to cook with a wood fire before (besides for making smores around the campfire) so we just let the flames die down and used the coals to cook the meat. The other couple brought a delicious little entree that I really can't remember what was in it (without asking my wife first) but I do know that even without the dressing for it, it was scrumdidlyumptous (yes I know this isn't really a word but it best describes how good it tasted). One of their kids fell in a puddle of water so we also were waving his pants above the flames while he sat in a pile of blankets on the beach. It looked like we were fixin' to eat blue jeans. All in all it was a great night and I'm hoping we are able to do it again sometime. I'll try to find a few pictures to post here but like I stated earlier, my wife's blog is the best place to be looking for those. Also, she's been posting them to her flickr account as well as her facebook page so enjoy if you have access.
